Alright, here it is by popular demand (one person requested it, so now it’s popular demand?!). How to determine what months have 31 days and which ones do not. I was playing World of Warcraft after working on a web site for most of the day and remembered I need to post something for today… At least one post for today… I think another one may be brewing.
So, do you need an easy way to determine how many days are in a particular month? Ok, here’s the trick:
1.) Make a fist. Use your left hand for starters. After you’re comfortable with the left fist you can move on to the right. Ok, my right hand is broken and doesn’t make a very good fist these days… Plus, it’s not a very good target for “knuckle bouncing”.
2.) Starting on your index finger knuckle, say “January”. See, the knuckles have 31 days in them and the spaces in between (why can’t inbetween be accepted as a word, Spellchecker? It sounds and reads good to me… And, by the way, Spellchecker, your name doesn’t even spell check, so there!) are months with less than 31 days.
3.) The space in between your index finger’s knuckle and your middle finger’s knuckle is February. Everyone knows that February has only 28 days, unless it is a leap year and then there are 29 days. For every space in between your knuckles, the months have 30 days.
4.) Your middle finger’s knuckle is March…
5.) The space in between you middle finger’s knuckle and your ring finger’s knuckle is April…
6.) Then May…
7.) Then June…
8.) Then comes July on the pinky knuckle. Here’s the tricky part. You have to count your pinky knuckle for two months. Once you count July on your pinky knuckle, hit it again for August and then start working your way back towards your index finger.
9.) Repeat these steps in reverse towards your index finger until you come upon your middle finger’s knuckle again which will be December. And, since it is a knuckle, it has 31 days!
Teach your kids this little trick. I’m sure it will be an easy way to remember which months have 31 days in them, which ones have 30, and everyone should be able to remember that February has 28 or 29 days in it. I hope all of this adds up…
Until next time…
UPDATE: Wow (no, not World of Warcraft… I spell that WoW…)! I searched Google for which months have 31 days and found this article on the Wikipedia. I’ll be dern tootin’ if this article doesn’t have an image of a pair of fists with the “knuckle bouncing” concept illustrated. Granted, they use two hands which makes it kind of hard to perform the “knuckle bouncing” technique, but it does give an idea of what I’m talking about. It’s just more fun to “bounce the knuckles”. Here is the image with a link to the original Wiki image page:
So, I am already behind on my journaling for the month of June. But, I have a really good excuse… Or so I think.
Friday evening, my brother-in-law and cousin-in-law (can’t I just claim them as brother and cousin?!) came over for the weekend. We hung out playing World of Warcraft (WoW), listening to music, and we spent quite a bit of time making a beat for an upcoming song. We went to bed around 4:30AM Saturday morning.
Saturday morning, Caleb, a.k.a. Nfinight (damn, he was young in that photo), a.k.a. brother-in-law, and I started a new character on WoW. We both were running a Dwarf Hunter for the Alliance. Caleb started his character before me but we had a great time doing some quests, grinding, training animals to be our pets, and exploring.
Saturday afternoon, I had a birthday party to attend for my niece, Cami. I also had a work function to attend. I got home from both around 7:00PM and played some more WoW with Nfinight. A little while later, Paul, a.k.a. P.Q., Big Shteve, and Josh, a.k.a. Piano Man, came over and we did some recording on a song we started the day I broke my hand. We may not have made a lot of progress Saturday evening, but we had a great time hanging out. Oh, and I also became a Human Saltshaker Saturday evening, but that’s a whole different story altogether… Needless to say, we stayed up until around 5:30AM Sunday morning just kicking it.
Sunday… Ah, yes… Sunday. A day for rest and relaxation. I kind of went back to some old school traditions yesterday and didn’t do any kind of work… I mean, it was the Sabbath, right?! I guess it depends on which religion you ask. It could be Saturday or it could be Sunday. Either way, I didn’t do any type of work yesterday. I played WoW all day! From the time that I woke up until the time I went to bed… WoW! Or, WOW I played a lot of WoW!
So, I did miss a couple of days on my June promise, but here is a recap that should make up for the two days I missed… I will try to come up with enough content, technology, gaming, or related to me personally, to get 31 posts this month. I promise! Who cares you ask?! ME!!! And that, kids, should be all that matters.
Until next time…
Do those numbers ring a bell?! That’s right, kids! That’s the number of entries I have blogged in the first 5 months of 2007! Quite impressive, eh?! Notice the trend?! It keeps getting lower, and lower, and lower, and lower…
Why you ask? That’s the million dollar question. I don’t know why I haven’t blogged much lately. I thoroughly enjoy blogging. I have entries I have started. I, for some reason, just don’t finish them and publish them. Interesting…
So, here’s the deal. One blog entry a day for the rest of June, even if its about nothing. And, tonight, I will start getting some of my unfinished posts published. So, is it a deal?! Good!
Until next time…
Every time I log into my blog, obviously not to write anything, I am greeted with the latest release announcement from the WordPress team in my dashboard. I have been meaning to upgrade for a while, basically, ever since it was announced (3 weeks, 2 days, 1 hour, and 12 minutes ago) but just got around to doing so this evening. The upgrade went smooth, as always. I’m just dreading the upgrade on averageadmins.com (aa) (which is happening as I write this).
I have customized some of the core functions in the WordPress code on the aa site and they are always overwritten when I perform an upgrade. Then, I get to spend about 2 hours sifting through code trying to determine which functions do this, and which ones do that. You would think I would document these functions somewhere so I didn’t have to do all that searching every time WP upgrades their software… Oh, well… Such is life…
Until next time…
