In response to a good friend’s post, here are some interesting statistics on the visitors to my site. However, as Josh mentioned areas within the United States, I will begin with the visitors from other countries that visited my site recently in 2008.
In no particular order:
Romania, The Philippines, Ireland, Canada, Portugal, Saint Lucia, Finland, Australia, Thailand, The United States, The United Kingdom, Turkey, Czech Republic, Argentina, The United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Belgium, Macao, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands, Japan, Lithuania, Taiwan, Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Mauritius, South Africa, India, Norway, France, Poland, Sweden, Ecuador, Italy, Austria, Kuwait, and Greece.
That to me is interesting. Josh and I recently discussed site traffic so I’m glad I saw his post this morning (even though it was from last month… Sorry, Josh!). Like Josh mentioned, the traffic is being generated from search traffic. What is interesting is the way people are coming to my site… It’s for posts I thought would have no impact on the tech people around me, much less across the planet!
I’ve been amazed at the relevance of some of my posts as they rank on Google. A lot of these people are searching for “metasploit mac osx” or something similar, and my post, found here, ranks number one on Google. People are also stumbling upon (pun intended) my Web site for queries related to recording rap albums, Garage Band, CakePHP, png2ico, and other things I have blogged about in the past for my own personal notes, or to help others out of they needed it… Looks like they’re needing it…
Analytics is a wonderful thing. While 60% of my visitors are from the States, it is interesting to see the amount of traffic originating from other countries… And scary! Like Josh says in his posts: “These people are looking at ME!” The bad thing is that, I actually have photos of me some guy I saw on the street and paid to let me take his photo on here… And, other people… I guess the whole world knows us now… Except, their only interested in Metasploit! Sorry to burst your bubble!
Until next time…
Once again, I am so letting myself down on my blogging challenge. I’ll just chalk it up as “I don’t have anything to blog about” and leave it at that.
I have been playing a lot of World of Warcraft (WoW). My brother-in-law came over this weekend and we did a lot of gaming. I had a great time and made a little video in the process…
Sorry about that… The video is a little suggestive if you have your mind in the gutter. Otherwise, it’s just a video of my WoW pet, Spankdangler, protecting my Dwarf Hunter, Shankdangler, during a little R&R. What a pair those two!
I also have been having a lot of trouble getting to sleep… Is it too much caffeine?! Is it too much anxiety?! Is it too much stress?! Is it sleep apnea?! Is it anything at all?! Is it all in my head?! Do I ramble too much?!
Until next time…
Bruce and I visited the Apache Trail again this year during my visit. Last year, on my first trip, we made one end of the trail before dark. This year, we started at the opposite end and went all the way to Fish Creek Canyon before turning around and working our way back.
Here are a few photos of Bruce and I at one of the lookout points. We broke out the tripod and prayed that it would stand up through the wind. Knocking your “I paid too much for this camera” camera down just for a few shots would have been bad. but, the photos turned out great in my opinion. Enjoy!
Until next time…
Some of you may know my community blog, averageadmins.com, others may not. If you’ve never visited it, don’t go there now… Or, for the rest of the month of June for that matter. If you are a frequent visitor of the average admins site, you’ll remember last month we had a little issue with bandwidth. Well, this month is no different. It just so happened to strike us as a problem yesterday evening, the 17th of June.
The averageadmins.com web site has 10GB of transfer bandwidth available per month. It was set at 8GB last month and I upped it due to the fact that 8GB didn’t last very long. This month, around the 8th, half of the 10GB was already used. That’s ridiculous if you ask me. I will be doing some research on who is making all of the connections, what type of content they are grabbing, and try to figure out what’s going on. I’ll be posting my progress on here into my “investigation”.
I may have to enlist the skills of Chris to help me further investigate this. He’s a pretty savvy network forensics guy/log parser. Until then, the average admins site will be down for the remainder of the month. If we can determine who is chewing up all of my bandwidth, and block their IP address(es), then I may extend the bandwidth for the month and June and see how it goes… We’ll see.
Until next time…
To all the fellas out there that don’t shoot blanks and can actually “father” a child, this day’s for you! Happy Father’s Day!
I hope that all of you dads out there cherish the kids you have helped bring into this world. Know that children are a blessing. True, they may get on your nerves from time to time, but take a minute to think about what your life would be without them. You would be nothing without your kids. Sure, you think your life would be easier, you’d have more time for you and your own selfish gains, but is that really a worthy sacrifice? Would you give up your kids so you would have more fun, or so you think?! I doubt it!
I have nieces, cousins, friends with kids, etc. that I get to spend time with. Sure, they look at me and give me those big “I love you” eyes. They’re cute as hell. They want to be near to you, sit with you, play with you, but I can guarantee you that they don’t look at me the same way they look at their parents. That’s what you need to cherish! The love your kids have for you, the way they look at you, cry for you, and long to do things with you! That’s the good stuff…
So, on this special day for dads, take a minute to really look into your child’s eyes. Look into their heart and soul, and see the love they have for you. If you really take that deep look and can see what you mean to them, I can almost promise you’d see your children from a different perspective from now on.
Kids are a blessing, cherish them…
Until next time…
