I posted a blog entry a while back on average admins about flashing the firmware on my recently purchased Nokia E61. We have had comments and tips from users all over the world on this post. Based on the IP address they posted their comment from, the ip2nation (Note: the link appears to be down at the time of this posting. The data actually comes from ip2nation.com.) plugin for WordPress determined that the users were from the following countries, in no particular order: Great Britain (UK), Brazil, Italy, Spain, Norway, South Africa, Germany, India, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Yugoslavia, Thailand, Switzerland, Netherlands, Europe (broad I know), and the United States.
So, here is the mystery part. We have had a number of excellent posts and how-to’s on the average admins blog. Some haven’t even received one comment. Not one! It doesn’t make sense to me. You can visit some blogs and they have hundreds of comments on each post. Sure, the average admins site is visited a number of times each month and the RSS feed is always being requested, but no one comments. Some posts, the most obscure posts you wouldn’t think would be helpful to anyone, get tons of comments.
I guess it all comes down to timing and accessibility. People have to be looking for something you posted at the right time, and be able to locate your content on the wonderful “InterWeb”. You may post something one day and months later the comments may come rolling in. Like I said, I guess it just has to do with timing.
I also understand that some posts don’t deserve comments. But, some do. Even if it is just a simple “thank you” for helping someone do something. You never know if your content is helpful to your readers if you don’t receive feedback from them. If I am looking for assistance on a subject and find a blog with some helpful content, I always leave a comment to let the author know it was useful to me.
Anyway, I guess this mystery will continue. We may never know why some blogs get all the comments and some don’t. We’ll never understand why post “X” got more comments than post “Y” when post “Y” was really just something useful to you and you wanted to have it documented somewhere. Oh, well… without mysteries, what do you have?!
Until next time…

Without mysteries, I don’t think you have much at all. Such is life!

Jesús,
Thanks again for the recognition. I am glad you got your phone working the way you wanted. It’s nice to know that there are people out there willing to help and people willing to give thanks.
I appreciate the props! Take care!
