I Wanna Be a Rapper: Making Some Progress

Cocoa Crusty on the USS Midway, San Diego, CAI posted back in January about my goal of releasing an original rap album or EP by the summer of 2007. I have had the equipment and the want to do it, I just haven’t had all the pieces together. Now, that all seems to be changing.

I finally created a drum beat that I was happy with. Last night I talked Josh into coming over at about 9:30PM to lay down some tracks for me with the MIDI keyboard. He laid down the bass, some pianos, and some strings. It sounds awesome! I hope to lay down my vocals soon and have a scratch track available for download before too long.

I also have a few friends that have mentioned some interest in getting together on a few songs. You know, like every other rapper these days has a song like “Such and Such Song feat. So-in-So”. It will be something like that when these guys get involved. Troyz, Shelby, and “Big Steve” have all expressed interest in getting in on some songs. Even “Big Baller P.Q.” has expressed an interest. The songs that these guys are going to be appearing on should be extremely interesting to hear. I look forward to it.

I have also made some other contacts, locally and abroad, for helping me come up with the audio tracks. Obviously, Josh is in on the project, and I also met a guy yesterday that is a keyboard/piano player that said he would be interested in seeing what was going on and possibly laying down some tracks. I also have made a contact in New York who is actually a producer and works with artists on a regular basis who has expressed interest in assisting me with this project. I met the guy in New York through the average admins blog on the E61 post (which is at 174 comments as of the time of this writing).

Anyway, I feel like I am making some progress on this project. It is exciting! I enjoy rapping, music, recording, hanging with friends, and everything that is involved in a project like this. As soon as I get some songs recorded and mastered I will post the download links on this site for all to enjoy!

Until next time…

Sounds exciting! Will these be family-friendly tracks, or ones I’ll have to listen to after the kids go to bed? :-)

That’s a good question, Jennifer. I have put a lot of thought into that. Most of the time I try to keep my songs clean and “family-friendly” but since this is a personal adventure, there may be some topics I will talk about that may offend some people.

I’d like to think it will be a “family-friendly” experience but I guess we’ll have to wait and see what types of moods flow out of me during the process.

Was that a rap because it didn’t rhyme? I hope you’re not putting that on the CD!
