I can’t even find any information on the Internet right now for this bit of information, though I’m sure it is out there. When I fired up my Wii this evening I had a message from Nintendo about an upgrade for the Wii. The upgrade is a new channel titled “Everybody Votes”.
Basically, it is a place where random questions are asked with 2 responses. You choose the response that best fits you and your likes dislikes and then you have a chance to predict what you think the rest of the world is going to choose. The 3 questions I responded to this evening went something like this:
- Which Valentine’s gift is more romantic, chocolate or roses?
- I’d rather live in a house on a mountain or on a beach.
- Which type of pets do you prefer, dogs or cats?
I chose chocolate, on a mountain, and cats. I predicted roses, on a beach, and dogs. Basically, everything I predicted that everyone would prefer something different than what I chose because they seem like more mainstream answers to me, just not my personal preferences.
Once the polls close for these questions, Nintendo will send me the results in a message or via the Everybody Votes Channel on the Wii console. According to some messages I read while in the channel, it will also deliver information on how many times I choose answers that are the most popular choice and how many times my predictions are correct.
While the Wii is great for gaming, current or classic, I really like the different channels Nintendo is adding to the Wii Menu. I enjoy browsing the Internet via the Internet Channel, checking the weather around the world in the Weather Channel, and keeping up to date on current events in a number of different categories through the News Channel. These types of services keep the Wii fresh and also offer useful services to it’s user base that can be used easily while in between games or whatnot.
Even though the Wii won’t appeal to everyone, and I don’t consider it my primary gaming platform, I think it has a lot to offer and I look forward to the future updates Nintendo brings to the table. Interactive, non-thinking activities like the new Everybody Votes Channel works for me!
Until next time…
