I blogged about this at average admins but I felt a little more, less technical review deserved to be posted here as well.
I downloaded the latest version of Adium, which was released yesterday, and have been thoroughly impressed with it. I have always thought that Adium was an excellent multi-protocol instant messaging client for Mac OS X and it is actually the only client I have used since moving to OS X. I have got to say, though, that this latest release, version 1.0, is extremely impressive! I feel like I have a new computer just having the “Contacts” window opened up on the right side of my display. It just looks sexy!
Previous versions of Adium were great. They were customizable, had tons of available addons, and looked good, but that was before I saw and started using this version late yesterday evening. It looks very impressive and I just wanna chat with everyone using it but it is 3:36AM and none of my buddies are online. At least a good friend of mine, Bruce, popped on to check his GMail about 2:00AM his time (he lives in Arizona) so I did get to do some “chatting” with him via the new interface.
Anyway, I have always clicked through the “Donate” prompt when upgrading Adium but after seeing the work that these guys are doing to this free, open-source chat client, I think I will make a donation later today (which is Sunday now) after I wake up. These guys deserve it and I want to continue using Adium in the future so I’m going to do my part. If you use a Mac and like to keep in touch with friends via IM, this client is the way to go! Get it now!
Until next time…
