Wintry Mix Accumulation at the House

Winter Mix Accumulation in Texarkana, February 1stOn January 31st we received a little bit of sleet in the late afternoon. The roads got a bit icy, some frozen precipitation accumulated in the valleys of the roof tops, but other than that, that’s all we got. The next day (yesterday), February 1st, we had a chance of some rain with cold temperatures hovering around 34°. Late yesterday afternoon we started to get snow. It came down hard for many hours and started sticking on everything that wasn’t concrete. The yards got covered quickly, rooftops, cars, etc. The roads were still a bit too warm, I guess, so they stayed wet and a little icy on overpasses.

I tried to take some photos of the event because it has been a while since we have had snow like this. I mean, it came down hard for quite a few hours. The bad thing about the photos is that most of them are taken at night. I did get up this morning and try and take a few more but a lot of the snow had already begun to melt. Anyway, here are some of the photos I took last night and this morning.

This is a photo of my backyard shortly after the snow began to come down.

This is looking out my garage and down my driveway. As you can see, the driveway is just wet, but the grass surrounding it has a pretty nice layer of snow, which in NE Texas and SW Arkansas means wet, icy snow due to the humidity.

These two pictures above are of my brother-in-law’s Honda PassPort. It has been sitting in the driveway for quite sometime and I think I may have it sold. Anyway, it was the only non-grass subject I had that would show the level of accumulation. Well, the only one I had that showed up halfway decent at night that is.

The above picture is the neighbor across the street’s house. I showed a photo of this house before in my previous post showing the sleet accumulated in the valleys of their roof. As you can see this morning (February 2nd) they have it in a little more places than just the valleys of the roof line.

The above photo is of my house, taken at night, but shows the amount of coverage on the roof, bushes, grass, etc. We didn’t get much but it was enough to get excited about because it “stuck”.

Until next time…
