…Comes Around.
Last night, Joey (a.k.a. WooleyBooger on Xbox Live) and I were playing Test Drive® Unlimited together and were getting a bit wild the longer we drove around. I was sporting my Lamborghini Murcielago and Joey was driving his 25th Anniversary Edition of the Lamborghini Countach. We were driving all over the island and happened to stumble upon another Xbox Live (XBL) gamer on a motorcycle lining up at one of the unofficial drag strips within the game. Here’s where the madness began…
Joey and I kept ramming this guy and pushing him off the starting line he was lined up on. This guy was obviously meeting other XBL racers here for a friendly drag race because other drivers started showing up in various high-end super cars. We payed no attention to the other drivers and just continued to give this guy on the bike hell. Every time he would line up we would nail him and send him flying across the pavement. Joey and I would sandwich him between our two cars at high rates of speed. We sent him off into the grass, into oncoming traffic, etc. This guy must have really wanted to be in this particular location because he would continuously line up in the same spot waiting for us to leave him alone so he could race these other cars.
This went on and on for quite some time and eventually the other XBL cars/drivers present started getting in on the fun. They would ram us, him, each other, etc. It was a big crash fest going on. Every now and then we would slip up and allow a race to get off the line, but once they were through running their rides, they would always come back and line up and the madness would continue.
Well, I went back to one of my houses and got a motorcycle to make the game a little more exciting and to even the playing field for my man who was already there sporting his motorbike. I got rammed, slammed, and spun out of control a number of times and was having a great time.
I guess one of the other XBL drivers got tired of us playing games and got a little frustrated with the whole situation. He then turned his bright yellow Corvette Z06 on me with a vengeance. This guy would not let me move. Now I knew what the other biker was feeling when Joey and I were jacking with him.
At one point, the Corvette had me pinned between him and an AI (artificial intelligence, a.k.a. computer controlled cars) car. If you’re not familiar with the game, the cops don’t take too kindly to you hitting AI controlled cars and will issue you tickets based upon the number of cars you have hit during your run from the law. Well, I was sitting here pinned in between the Vette and this AI car and without thinking to hit my “Back” button on the Xbox 360 controller to reset my car on the road, I started trying to push this Vette off of me… Not smart considering I was on a motorbike.
He kept pounding me into the AI car, over and over. My alerts showing how bad the police wanted me quickly went to three full shields and stayed there for quite some time. Before I knew it a message popped up on the screen stating that I had been issued a ticket for $472k. I had $980k in the bank so I thought I was cool. I pressed the “A” button on the controller a number of times to get the message to go away so I could continue playing the game and jacking with these guys. That didn’t happen.
I then received a message stating that I had no more money and would have to spend 30 seconds in jail. I just sat there looking at the jail house with cop cars parked outside for 30 seconds. I was thinking, maybe you can only carry so much money on your person at one time, I’ll go back to my house and see that I still have $500k in the bank… Uh, no…
I guess when I was pressing the “A” button to get the ticket message to go away earlier I must have clicked through a second ticket that took my remaining $500k. I was absolutely broke. I lost almost one million dollars playing games with other XBL racers. That’s a lot of in-game cash! It was just gone!
So, the moral of the story is, if you wanna jack with other players, be cautious of the wanted meter in the game. You can normally run from the law but they will catch up to you. Especially if you’re not paying attention because you’re in a crash fest…
Until next time…
